Yogiraj, Bikram Choudhury, was born in Calcutta in 1946 and began doing yoga at the age of 4 with his guru Bishnu Ghosh. Bishnu Ghosh is the brother of Paramahansa Yogananda, author of Autobiography of a Yogi.

At the age of 13, Bikram won the National India Yoga Championship and remained undefeated for three years. At 17, after an injury to his knee while weightlifting, doctors predicted that he would never walk again. Refusing to accept this, Bikram returned to his guru, and after six months of intense yoga therapy was healed.

Bikram founded the Yoga College of India in Beverly Hills, California in 1974. Since then he has successfully brought better health and healing to millions of people and has certified hundreds of people to teach this series of yoga.
